One point makes difference in Eagles’ win, loss
PABLO — One point was all the difference this past week in two games for the Two Eagle River boys’ team. Just one point vaulted the team over neighboring Charlo 55-56 but clipped the Eagles 50-49 in a loss to Victor.
Against Charlo, the Eagles led by four with just seconds left when Charlo’s Webb O’Neill hit a 3-pointer, but it wasn’t enough as Two Eagle avenged an early season loss to the Vikings.
Two Eagle once again had multiple players with double-figure scoring. Skyler Rossbach led the group with 16 points; Marcus Brown was right behind with 15 points; and Artie Mendoza added 13. Clayton Malatare contributed five points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
The Vikings also had a trio of players in double digits. O’Neill led with 16; Dillon Delaney dropped in 14; and Tra Ludeman added 11 more.
The next day, one point was once again all the difference. But this time, the Eagles were pinned with a loss in the waning moments of the game.
The Eagles were up 49-47 when Victor’s Kyle Ball hit a jumper and was fouled in the process.
Ball sank the free throw, ending the night with 20 points and claiming the win over Two Eagle.
Rossbach again led the Eagles with 16, followed by Brown and Mendoza with 10 each.
The Eagles (9-5) play St. Regis Feb. 2 and Superior Feb. 4 at home.
