POLSON – The Polson Pirate boys’ basketball team continues to struggle through a difficult Northwest A conference field.

The Pirates lost to both Whitefish and Frenchtown last week to end their regular season 2-6 in conference and 11-7 overall.

On Saturday, Polson hosted a hot Whitefish team, which used a high shot percentage to ward off the Pirates, 64-46.

The Bulldogs shot out to a 17-14 lead in the first and held Polson to only eight points in the second to lead 30-22 at the break. The Pirates got their offense back on track in the third frame, but couldn’t restrain Bulldogs from continuing to rack up points, and were down nine at the beginning of the fourth.

Whitefish closed out the game on a 17-12 run to win 64-46, moving the Bulldogs’ record to 6-2 in conference and 11-7 overall.

Zach Camel paced the Pirates with 21 points, while Cody Fischer contributed 10.

Cooper Olson and Christopher Forrest each hit five 3-pointers for the Bulldogs. Olson finished the game with a game-high 22 points, while Forrest tallied 15.

On Tuesday, Polson traveled to Frenchtown, where the Broncs held on late, defeating the Pirates 66-59 in a Northwestern A battle.

Frenchtown took an early lead over the Pirates in the opening quarter, leading 18-13.

Both teams had trouble finding the rim in the second frame, as Frenchtown continued to add to its lead, outscoring Polson 10-7 to go up by eight at the half.

It was more of the same in the third quarter, as the Broncs went up by 11, but Polson wasn’t done just yet.

Camel and Fischer put up eight points apiece in the fourth frame for the Pirates, who exploded for 28 points in a final push to regain control of the game, but Frenchtown edged the Pirates by scoring 25 additional points, winning 66-59.

Fischer led Polson with 17 points, while Camel added 15. Vince DiGiallonardo added 13, while Ian Laimbeer and Riley Sampson both contributed five.

Frenchtown was led by Daniel Lebsock’s game-high 23 points, while John Chapman added 14.

Polson heads to the Divisional Tournament in Columbia Falls beginning Feb. 23, where the Pirates’ first game is set for tip-off at 8 p.m.
