News from Fieber, Mission Valley Shooting Range

A hearty thanks to the community for all the support they gave to our area youth. The Mission Valley Shooting Club youth shoots started out back in 2008 with half a dozen kids and is still going on. Families from all around show up for the monthly shoots to learn firearm safety, handling and have a good time for free.

This spring was a very busy one for the range. Maintenance and improvements kept us busy for many days and included the addition of parking lots, metal targets at the 22LR range – up to 300 yards and rebuilding roads. People are hitting metal gongs with 22LR rifles consistently at 300 yards. Allen Corneliusen has been promoting competitive 22 shoots and is getting more shooters joining.

We added an underground sprinkler system to our picnic/meeting area, pistol range and more landscaping at the pistol range. A special thanks to Access Montana and Bob Cornwell for coming out with a trenching machine that, in a few hours, trenched in all of our water lines for the water system. When it came time to pay, Cornwell said that the Preston Family was celebrating 60 years in business and wanted to donate back to community projects. This saved us hundreds of dollars that went back into the project.

True Value in Ronan kept us in supply of items from their inventory. Between True Value, Delaney’s Landscape Center and Ace Hardware, we were able to complete the job. Dan Thingelstad provided all the backhoe work and other members donated all the labor. We came in under budget and completed many other maintenance tasks.

Westland Seed offered help and advice on products and equipment to improve lawns and weed control. Board member Ray Aynesworth spent an afternoon with his tractor leveling and moving material for the final grade.

It always amazes me how the community steps up to support these community projects that provide for our youth. It was about a two-month project that I think everyone can appreciate and enjoy.
