POLSON — Construction crews are making substantial progress on the completion of the Linderman Elementary School Gymnasium rebuild project.

“Crews are steadily moving forward,” said Polson School District superintendent Tom DiGiallonardo. “The building is 100 percent framed out and the exterior of the gym is nearly complete.”

DiGiallonardo said the green board insulation that has drawn attention from the community will be covered up when the copper-colored metal siding is complete. The gym’s color will not be insulation green.

“The district office has received a number of inquiring calls (asking) if the gym exterior color will be green,” said DiGiallonardo.

Interior projects like drywall installation, taping and painting should all be completed within the week, DiGiallonardo said. Basketball hoops, gymnasium lighting and curtains have been installed, but notable projects, like the retractable bleachers, wireless scoreboards and hardwood floors, still need to be finished, as well as lockers in the team rooms and doors.

The project is estimated to cost $4.2 million and is being paid for through an insurance claim with Travelers Insurance Company. The claim was made after the 1940s-era gym suffered severe structural damage, including a collapsed parapet wall, from a heavy snowstorm in January of 2018.

Once complete, the 2,000 seat gymnasium will be used for all Polson High School gym athletic sporting events as well as Linderman elementary physical education classes.

The contractor is aiming to finish the 24,507 square-foot gym with an additional 7,000 square-feet of mezzanine space by the start of the coming fall school year.
