The Charlo High School graduating senior class of 2021 were encouraged to “be gritty” and “call your mom” during Sunday’s commencement ceremonies held in the high school’s gymnasium.

Guest speaker Jared Miller, a former Charlo Elementary school teacher, defined the word grit as working toward a goal with passion and persistence. “If you have grit, no one can stop you,” Miller said.

Miller also encouraged the graduates to call their mother at least once a week. “Always, always, no matter where you are in life, call your mothers at least once a week. It’s important,” Miller told the class.

Other speakers included valedictorians Brooke Alder and Aryal Love. Before the 16 seniors received their diplomas, turned their tassels and tossed their caps, the yearly Confidence Award and Golden Viking Award winners were announced. Joseph Davis won the Confidence Award, while Aryal Love and Liev Smith both received the Golden Viking Award.

Graduation festivities concluded after a parade as the seniors passed through town honking and waving at their family and friends.

The 2021 Charlo High School graduates include: Brooke Alder, Kiana Brown, Nathan Clark, Joseph Davis, Anneliese DeGrandpre, Roper Edwards, Carlee Fryberger, Connor Fryberger, Ethan Hafliger, Kaylee Koenig, Aryal Love, Phillip Marquez, Morgan Shepard, Dalen Siech, Liev Smith and Jayden Stevens.
