A Polson man was committed to the Montana Department of Corrections for three years with all of that time suspended on two counts of felony theft. The sentence was handed down at District Court in Polson on June 2 by Judge James Manley.

Matthew Logan Semsak, 33, had pleaded guilty to the theft charges in an earlier court appearance. Manley also ordered Semsak to pay restitution of $1,840 and gave Semsak credit for seven-days jail time already served.

According to court records, on Aug. 12, 2019, a Polson couple reported the theft of their 2002 Honda CRV. The report was sent out to law enforcement throughout northwest Montana. Police in Kalispell located the Honda later that day at a gas station in their jurisdiction, and Semsak was identified as the driver.

While the 2019 stolen vehicle case was pending, Semsak was involved in another vehicle theft on July 18, 2020. A Polson man reported the theft of his 2007 Chevy Silverado. Law enforcement located the Silverado at the Polson Walmart. Surveillance cameras in the Walmart parking lot show the Silverado arrive and Semsak get out of it and go into the store. The officers located and arrested Semsak inside the store. When he was arrested, Semsak was in possession of the keys to the Silverado and remote opener for the victim’s garage.

The three year suspended sentence for the 2019 theft will be in addition to a five-year suspended sentence handed down in Flathead County District Court.
