POLSON — Art festival-goers filled Sacajawea Park this past weekend during the Flathead Lake Festival of Art held along the tree-lined shores of Flathead Lake.

The two-day festival, presented by the Sandpiper Art Gallery, offered a relaxing atmosphere for shoppers to browse a diverse array of artisan booths ranging from paintings, sculpture, leather, jewelry and photography.

According to organizers, this year’s event drew a considerably smaller number of vendors than previous festivals, although there was a noticeable increase in visitor traffic and sales among the booths.

One of the frequented booths at the festival was the Laughing Blackbird. “This is a great show,” said Debbie Mahn, owner of the booth. “The venue is hard to beat. The view of the lake is phenomenal.”

The Flathead Lake Festival of Art is a prelude to the much larger annual Sandpiper Art Festival, which is hosted on the Lake County Courthouse lawn in early August. The Sandpiper Art Gallery, a non-profit cooperative that promotes and supports the arts locally, facilitates both events. Proceeds from the gallery’s festivals go toward scholarships for local students who pursue studies in the arts.
