CHARLO – The Charlo Lady Vikings volleyball team continues to keep the ball rolling this season after a week of downing opponents. The Lady Vikings swept Noxon 25-15, 25-13, 25-18 before hosting Valley Christian on Thursday.

Charlo dismantled Valley Christian 3-0 in a District 10-C match on Thursday.

“We didn’t know what to expect as we haven’t played them as far as I know,” head coach Sheryl Kain said. “The girls came out strong and put them away in the first game.”

Charlo won each set convincingly, 25-7, 25-13, and 25-15 as the Lady Vikings are starting to come together and play collectively as a team.

According to Kain, even with multiple substitutions in the second and third matches, her team continued to play at an exceptional level.

“We were hitting the balls extremely well,” Kain said. “I was very pleased with our hitting; if we could just stay that consistent.”

With the win, Charlo advances to an early season record of 5-0.

Kinley Pope offered up 11 kills and 8 blocks, while Dawn Blevins added 17 assists, two aces and a pair of blocks. Teammate Kelsie Blevins picked up eight digs and two aces. Rachel Hoyt finished the match with two aces.

On Saturday the Lady Vikings traveled to Phillipsburg to play in the Drummond Tournament. 16 teams from northwest Montana competed in the all-day event, and Charlo played a total of five matches.

During the morning pool play, Charlo downed Lincoln in their opening game 12-3, 12-4. Later, the Lady Vikings split with Superior, 8-12, 12-11, before downing Seeley Swan 12-5, 12-6.

In the afternoon they won two of three matches against Arlee, going 15-13, 9-15, 15-2. They then fell to Gardiner in the final match, 5-15, 7-15.

“We played well overall,” Kain said. “We had a couple of letdowns, but rallied back except against Gardiner.

Kain says the game against Gardiner was “not their best showing,” and said the full day of competition helped her team improve.

During the five matches, Deondra Brown had 15 kills, while Kinley Pope added 11 kills and 14 digs. Kelsie Blevins finished with 18 digs, while Dawn Blevins contributed 26 assists, 4 blocks, and 9 digs.

Charlo hosts Thompson Falls at home in Charlo on Friday, Sept. 16.
