The Lady Pirate soccer team endured losses to Columbia Falls and Whitefish last week, 10-0 and 9-1.
Keely Clairmont served as goalkeeper for both games as Monica Cleveland suffered a broken thumb after being stepped on in the Hamilton match.
“The Lady Pirates played the game they could play to the best of their ability,” head coach Michael Hewston said. “They continue to grow with each match and were able to put a scoring drive together against Whitefish.”
Defense is starting to come together for the Polson girls, Hewston added, as the girls are grasping the concepts of pressure cover and forcing out.
“Up until Columbia Falls, we had focused on basic attributes: first to ball, attack the ball and communication. During the Columbia Falls game, the girls achieved those goals,” Hewston said. “The focus in the Whitefish game and from here forward will be tactical. On the defensive side we will focus on pressure cover, criss-cross, and pushing out. On the attack side of the ball, we will work on timing, one-touch passing and shots.”
The bottom line for his girls, Hewston added, is to improve and give their best.
“Our goal this season is the effort, not the score,” he said.
