POLSON — Lights; camera; action. The spotlight will be shining Feb. 1-3, when Polson will host the first annual Flathead Lake International Cinemafest. The Envison Polson Film Committee is already working diligently to prepare for next year’s exciting event. Filmmakers from around the world will have the opportunity to showcase their films on the beautiful shores of Flathead Lake.

The festival’s mission is to promote awareness, knowledge and understanding of community, communication, culture, habitat, people and nature through excellence in film. A winter date was set to give residents and visitors alike a new venue during the long winter months and in hopes of stimulating the local economy during the shoulder season.

The festival is also slated to host Montana’s first high school film competition under the FLIC umbrella. Students from across the state will be encouraged to submit their short to feature length films to FLIC Jr.

Additional highlights include appearances by guest filmmakers, screenwriters and producers, who will share their experiences working in the film industry.

Showboat Cinemas will host the festival during the three-day event, with an opening party on Friday night complete with red carpet.

During the festival, movie attendees will be asked to vote for their favorite FLIC and FLIC Jr. movie. “Best of” awards will be given during the closing party of the festival in several categories.

Sponsorships are available at four different levels: movie star $1,000-plus; executive producer $1,000-$500; director $500-$250; and screenwriter $250 and under. Current sponsors include the Greater Polson Community Foundation, Showboat Cinemas, double entendre design and the Jarecki Foundation.

Heading up the festival are co-chairs Frank Tyro and Daniel Smith. Volunteers are needed to help to fill the committee lists in programming, events, marketing, sponsorship and volunteers.

For more information on sponsorship, how to volunteer or other questions, please contact Daniel Smith at 406-274-0181 or send an email to flic@montanasky.net. A website is being developed that will have an application for film submissions.

In the meantime, you can “like” the festival’s Facebook page and read up-to-date posts about the festival.
