VALLEY VIEW — A 45-year-old Ronan man held a gun to his head for approximately an hour on the evening of Oct. 6.

In a press release, Lake County Undersheriff Dan Yonkin said at about 6 p.m., 911 dispatch received a call reporting a male outside of a residence in the Eli Gap Road and Apple Road area of Valley View, threatening to kill himself. Apparently the man had already shot himself once in the stomach before officers arrived.

Once on scene, LCSO deputies talked to the man, who kept requesting to speak with family members who were not on the scene.

The standoff ended about 7:20 p.m. without incident, Yonkin said, when the man surrendered in exchange for a jug of water.

Polson Ambulance transported the man to Provident St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where his injuries were evaluated.

As well as the ambulance crew, Flathead Law Enforcement officers, Polson Police officers, Montana Highway Patrol troopers, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Polson Fire Department responded to the incident.
