Obituary

Walter N. LeBrun

RONAN —Walter N. LeBrun, 85, passed away in Elliston, Mont. He was born March 21, 1927 in Butte, to Louis and Alice (Grund) LeBrun. At the age of two, he and his family moved to Ronan. He attended Ronan public schools and graduated in 1945 with honors for receiving his letter in basketball for all four years, as well as being captain of the basketball team. 

He started work for the Northern Pacific Railroad on the rail gang at age 17. That work was interrupted by a short stint in the Navy. After the Navy he continued to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher. He continued for 43 years with the railroad after it became the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching basketball and especially boxing. 

His wife of 51 years, Louella, daughter Lori Wood, three brothers and his parents, precede him in death. 

He is survived by sons Rick (Donna) of West Fargo, N.D. and Mark of Butte; daughters Patty (Jerry) Green of Las Vegas, Nev. and Michelle LeBrun of Helena; and sister Martha Haverkamp of Joliet; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; as well as his special little companion Pepi. 

Visitation will begin Sunday, at noon, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at the Jewell Funeral Home in Deer Lodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Deer Lodge. A burial with military honors will follow at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery near Fairmont. Please make memorials to the hospice of your choice. Jewell Funeral Home in Deer Lodge is in charge of arrangements.
