POLSON — An international flair and Hollywood glamour combine to add an air of excitement to Polson’s first annual film festival. Two guest filmmakers are feature attractions at the Flathead Lake International Cinemafest Feb. 1-3 in Polson.

Jeff Chiba Stearns, a multi award-winning animation and documentary filmmaker, will be the highlight on opening night, Friday, Feb. 1. Jeff specializes in the creation of animation and documentary films for both children and adults that combine different philosophical and social elements together to create humorous, entertaining and inspiring stories.

Jeff, who is of Japanese and European heritage, created the first animated film that explored multiethnic issues which led him to become an international spokesperson on mixed-race identity. He coined the term “Hapanimation” to describe his style, which blends Japanese animation with a North American animation style.

Four of Jeff’s award-winning films will screen from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. There will be a question and answer session following the screenings.

David W. King will be Saturday night’s featured attraction from 8 to 10 p.m., when he will present the world premiere of his docu-reality series “Chasing Fame.” David will talk with the audience following the screening of his new venture.

David is a 30-year film and television producer who moved to Polson in 2012 and formed his production company, David W. King Pictures. David’s career covers live-action and animation production.

The Opening Night Champagne Soiree in the main ballroom at the KwaTaqNuk will kick off film festival activities at 5 p.m. Friday. Attendees are invited to come dressed as their favorite movie star. Hors d’oeuvres and champagne, as well as wine and beer, will be served until the party breaks up at 6:30 p.m. to allow partygoers to attend the 7 p.m. screening of guest filmmaker Stearns.

Tickets are now available for purchase from the FLIC website and Showboat Cinema. Tickets for the Opening Night Champagne Soiree can also be purchased at The Terrace located at 308 Main St. in Polson. Movie tickets are $5 per two-hour block, $25 for an all-day Saturday pass and $25 for the Opening Party Champagne Soiree. A schedule of screenings and events is available on the FLIC website. The $5 tickets are sold for a specific film block. Tickets can be purchased online until Jan. 30 and picked up at “will call,” located at the registration desk, which opens at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the lower level at the KwaTaqNuk Resort.

The festival ends Sunday with a “Best Of” awards dessert reception from 3 to 4 p.m. The reception is free with the presentation of a ticket stub from any screening block at the festival. Without a ticket stub, the cost is $5. The reception will be held at the Showboat Cinema, 316 Main St.
