POLSON — Trustees were eager to hear McKinstry’s Dan McGee’s results of a performance grade audit at Polson High School at the Feb. 11 school board meeting. With four components — roof construction, HVAC construction, building envelope and general conditions — the amount totaled $2,491,000.

McGee said the project would “take a 40-year-old building and bring it back to life with new systems.”

The district head of maintenance, Dan Kinyon, asked if new panels in the gym were included in this price, since there was “horrible heat loss through those panels.”

McGee said panel replacement wasn’t in the cost, but paint for the panels was included.

Rollins resident Ron Jaden was disappointed with the presentation, noting that the project had not been bid.

“This is a school project, and you are spending my money on it,” Jaden said.

The board also accepted the resignation of Trustee Nancy Lindsey, who cited personal and family considerations as her reasons for resigning.

Superintendent Linda Reksten, directors and principals in School District 23 compiled a mid-year summary of goals, accomplished and in process.

Each person’s sheet contains three areas of achievement, Reksten said, and three areas of focus for the remainder of the year. Trustees received copies and members of the public may also.

In other business, the board approved the consent agenda, consisting of payroll, claims, travel requests and activity fund reports, as well as the elementary and high school personnel action reports. These reports contain recommended hires and resignations. A high school out-of-district student was accepted into the Polson district.

Reksten’s evaluation form will be completed by each board member and returned by Feb. 25 when the trustees will meet with her in executive session to discuss the compiled data.

The board also continued to work through board policies, approving the second reading of policies in the 1000 and 2000 section and the first reading of another 1000.

The next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be March 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the administration conference room.
