ARLEE—Jim Polk, keynote speaker, gave the 2011 graduating class the acronym FIRE to help guide their lives.

Polk, a social studies teacher, former coach and athletic director, said FIRE stands for faith, industry, responsibility and education.

“Take this heat and your talents and set the world on fire,” he told the class.

Arlee High School had 31 graduates including valedictorian Logan Deuel-Clinkenbeard and salutatorian Damion Cordier.

Cordier started his speech by apologizing to all the teachers, “Sorry for giving you a hard time and thank you for putting up with us.”

He went on to describe his classmates as “competitors” both on the athletics field and in the classroom.

“Your families are extremely proud of you,” Deuel-Clinkenbeard told his class. “This would be the most opportune time to ask for money,” he added joking as the audience laughed.

Then on a more serious note Deuel-Clinkenbeard said, “Life is a long winding road. Set your bar high enough.”

Seven graduating seniors were members of the National Honor Society. Those students were Taylor Jena Bolin, Damon Almeida Cordier, Eneas Joseph Inmee, Cassandra Faye Kline, Allie Malee Ligas, Jesse L. Pfau and Curtis Everett Seidel.

Scholarship winners included: Molly Big Sam, Taylor Bolin, Kasey Bridgewater, Trae Burland, Logan Deuel-Clinkenbeard, Damon Cordier, Chahoristah Massey, Dakota Desjarlais, Kaylene Adams, Shelby Arca, Matthew Finley, Eneas Inmee, Cassandra Kline, Allie Ligas, Melissa Ivanoff, Thomas McClure, Dylan Moran, Nicholas Morigeau, Bryce Norling, Alan O’Neill, Maria Pablo, Jesse Pfau, Cole Rice, Curtis Seidel and Keiran Ursua.

The class motto was a quote by Ralph Blum, “Nothing is predestined. The obstacles of your past can become the gateways that lead to new beginnings.”

“You are getting your diploma today, put it to work,” Polk said.
