Chiefs down Frenchtown, Maidens drop to 0-18

RONAN – The Ronan Chiefs suffered another conference loss Friday evening, falling to number 2 ranked Columbia Falls 73-57 in Ronan. The loss brings the team to 0-7 in conference play, and 7-10 for the season.  

After one period of play, the Chiefs were within striking distance, only down 19-13; however, Columbia Falls was too much for them as the game progressed. Columbia Falls went up by 12 points at the half, with the score 38-26.

The Wildcats held the Chiefs to only 11 in the third period of play, while they put up another 16, to take a 54-37 lead heading into the final period. Ronan was able to find the rim during the final quarter, putting up 20 points, but the Wildcats fought back to put up an additional 19 points of their own. 

The Wildcats ended the game with a 73-57 win over the Chiefs.

J.J. Tanner and Kevin Wroblewski were top scorers for Ronan, with 11 points each, while Justin Dustybull added 10.

Three Columbia Falls players ended the game scoring in double figures.  Nick Emerson led all scorers with 20, while Kaleb Johnson added 11, and Austin Barth put up 10.

The Chiefs picked up their first conference win over Frenchtown during Senior Night on Thursday in Ronan. The team started out strong, putting up 23 during the first period, easily outscoring the Broncs’ 9.

During the second quarter, the Broncs matched every point scored by the Chiefs, with both teams scoring 16 apiece. Ronan took the lead at halftime with a score of 39-25.  

The team put together a strong third quarter push, outscoring the Broncs 16-6 to put them away for the night with a demanding lead of 55-31 heading into the fourth quarter of play.

Two Ronan players finished the game in double figures. Justin Dustybull led all scorers with 13, while J.J. Tanner added 12 for the evening, and Kevin Wroblewski with 7.

For the Broncs, Jackson Mahlum led the team with 11, while Austin Blank put up 10 points.

The Maidens continue to struggle as they fell to Columbia Falls Friday evening 58-31. The team is now 0-7 in conference play, and 0-17 overall.

During the first quarter the Maidens fell behind quickly, with a score of 14-9 at the beginning of the second quarter. Things didn’t get much better for the team as the Wildkats outscored the Maidens 24-10 in the second quarter, going up 38-19 at the break.

After the third period, the Wildkats had built a demanding lead, putting the team away for the night. After three periods Ronan was down 20 points, with the score of 47-27 heading into the final quarter.

At the end of the night, Columbia Falls was just too much for the Maidens, winning the game with a final score of 58-31.

Kayla DeWit of Columbia Falls played a key role in the win for the Wildkats, scoring 21 points. Hope Burlage finished the night with 14, and Shaun Rowe contributed 5.

For the Maidens, Ashley Grandchamp led the Chiefs with 14 points, while Alice VanGunten put up 8.

The Maidens also fell last week to number 3 ranked Bigfork, 44-19. Ronan started the game off slow, going scoreless in the first quarter of play. After the first eight minutes of play, the Maidens were down 11-0.

During the second quarter, the Vals kept the Maidens from producing any offense, scoring only three points during the first sixteen minutes of the game, quickly falling behind. At the half they were down 23-3.

In the second half, Ronan did a better job finding the rim, producing nine points in the third quarter. But Bigfork wasn’t interested in a come back. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the score was 36-12, in favor of the Vals.

In the final eight minutes, the Maidens scored an additional 7 points, but it was too little too late for the team. The Vals won big in a 44-19 rout.  

Courtney Clairmount led the Maidens with 6 points, while Tailyr Irvine added 3.

Quinci Paine led all scorers, with 14 for the Vals. Caitlin Charlebois contributed 11 points, and Mallery Knoll put up 10 points.
