BIGFORK - The Chiefs needed a second-half scoring explosion to pick up a win in their final game before the holiday break last Monday as Ronan outscored Bigfork 44-27 over the final 16 minutes to earn an 81-68 victory.

Four Chiefs finished the game in double-digits as J.J. Tanner led the way with 19 points, Justin Dustybull added 17, Marcus Hungerford poured in 14 points and Kevin Wroblewski finished with 13.

Not to be outdone, the Vikings also had four players score in double-figures, led by Travis Knoll with 15. Christian Ker added 13, Carter Sorensen scored 12 and Ben Sandry finished with 10 points.

Ronan opened the game with a strong scoring attack as the Chiefs went ahead 22-16 after eight minutes of play. The Vikings had an answer in the second frame, though, outscoring Ronan 23-15 to take a 39-37 lead into the halftime break.

Ronan’s relentless pressure defense and fast-break offense began to take its toll on Bigfork in the third quarter as the Chiefs used a 16-10 run to take a 53-49 lead into the final eight minutes of play.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Chiefs as Ronan exploded for 28 points in the final frame while holding the Vikings to just 17 to pull away for the win.

Along with the four Chiefs in double figures, Gordon North Piegan III scored five points in the win and R.J. Hesselgesser added three.

With the win, the Chiefs improve to 4-1 on the season while Bigfork falls to 3-2 with the loss.

Things did not go as well for the Maidens last Monday as they fell to 0-5 on the season with a loss at Frenchtown before the holiday break.

Lady Bronc senior Sarah Lester poured in a game-high 22 points as Frenchtown led all the way en route to a 56-27 victory.

Courtney Clairmont led Ronan with 13 points in the contest but the Maidens fell behind 14-7 after one quarter of play and never recovered.

Frenchtown added another 14 points in the second frame to build a 28-17 lead at the break before using a 28-10 run in the second half to pull away for the 29-point win.

Clairmont’s 13 points led the Maidens in the loss while Tailyr Irvine added five, Ashleigh Lynch and Ashley Grandchamp each added four points and Justice Burland scored one.

Lester’s 22 led 4-0 Frenchtown while Angel Lowry added nine points.

Both the Chiefs and Maidens will be back in action Jan. 7 as they travel to face rival Polson.
