CHARLO - The Vikings closed out 2010 with a pair of district 14-C victories last week as Charlo won on the road at Hot Springs Monday before picking up a win over Two Eagle River at home Tuesday.

Charlo opened district play on the road at Hot Springs Monday, picking up a 69-49 win over the Savage Heat.

Kolten Andrews poured in nearly half of the Vikings points in the first half as he scored 22 through the first two quarters to lead Charlo to a 48-30 lead at the break. Charlo coasted in the second half, outscoring the Savage Heat 21-19 to grab a 20-point win.

Andrews added just two points in the second half, but still led the way with a game-high 24 points. Dillon Delaney added 14 while Stephen Delaney was also in double figures with 11 points.

Zach Malinak and Dave Cross each scored 12 to lead Hot Springs, which fell to 1-4 (0-1) with the loss.

The Vikings followed up the win over Hot Springs with another victory 24 hours later as Charlo downed visiting Two Eagle River, 68-53.

This time it was a pair of double-double performances that led to the Viking win as Stephen Delaney finished with 12 points and 10 boards while Chance Rosenbaum led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Charlo wasted no time grabbing a quick lead as pressure defense helped lead to a 19-9 advantage after one quarter of play. The Vikings continued to push their lead in the second frame, outpacing the Eagles 13-9 to build a 32-18 halftime advantage. Two Eagle River could do nothing to cut into the lead in the second half as Charlo outscored the Eagles 36-35 to earn a 15-point win.

Rosenbaum and Stephen Delaney led the way for Charlo in the win while Chico Stripe added 12 points, Dillon Delaney had eight, Garrett Herron scored seven and Kevin Moll and Kolten Andrews each added three in the victory.

Two Eagle River was led by Marcus Brown with 14 points while Skyler Rossbach, Clayton Malatare and Trevor Butterfly each scored nine, K.J. Cutfinger chipped in with eight and Luke Butterfly and Artie Mendoza each scored two.

Charlo improves to 6-0 (3-0) with the win.

The Lady Vikings also closed out 2010 with a district win last Monday as Charlo picked up a lopsided win at Hot Springs.

Charlo held the Lady Savage Heat scoreless in the first and third quarters en route to a 36-11 victory.

For the Lady Vikings, the difference came at the foul line, where Charlo sank 18-33 while Hot Springs managed to get to the line only 11 times.

Kinley Pope scored 12 to lead Charlo in the win with 10 of her points coming from the charity stripe. She was 10-12 from the foul line in the game. Deandra Brown added nine points for the Lady Vikings in the win.

With the win, the Charlo girls improve to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

Both the Vikings and Lady Vikings resume their seasons Jan. 4 against Thompson Falls. The Vikings will be at home while the Lady Vikings will be on the road.
