POLSON — Graduation — It’s a time of celebration, cards and cake, we hope. Each year we read heart-wrenching news stories of kids who have come to harm because of drinking at graduation parties.

In Polson, kids have another option. For the past 27 years, the parents of PHS seniors have organized the Senior Class Party to offer a non-alcoholic alternative to the graduation kegger. This year, the party will be held at Polson Middle School gym on June 1 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

With support from local businesses and individual contributors, seniors will be able to enjoy an evening of activities they wouldn’t necessarily have access to at any other time, like jousting, climbing a rock wall or riding a mechanical bull. There will be games of chance/skill, from pingpong to poker. Kids will get a last chance to sing karaoke or to take silly pictures with high school classmates. Each student will have the opportunity to snag cash prizes throughout the night as well as prizes donated by area businesses. At least one grand prize will be awarded at the end of the evening.

As you can imagine, the care and feeding of a herd of teenagers for an evening like this requires considerable funding. Because of the incredible outpouring of support from our community, in years past we have been able to offer a gift worth at least $25 to each student attending the party. With your help, we can do this again, by sponsoring a student’s ticket, as many friends and family members do, or donate a prize or food item. You could donate funds by designating the Senior Class Party PHS as your e-scrip recipient at Safeway. Any monetary donations may be sent to the Senior Class Party Committee at the Polson High School.

The Senior Class Party has attracted up to 95 percent of graduates from any given class, so donations make a real impact on the number of kids at risk on graduation night. Want to make a difference? Call Pam Kinzle at 212-8983, Kari Gallatin at 250-5145 or Lorri Lenz at 546-6784.
