ARLEE — Three years ago, Sally Cordier had a dream that’s evolved into an annual community event in Arlee.
“I had a dream that some friends and I were playing rock band in a flatbed truck in a parade,” Cordier explained.
It was late fall, and when Cordier told some friends about her idea, they started planning a holiday light parade. Everyone remembers the first parade as a numbingly cold walk through Arlee with just two floats. But it was a start, and Cordier’s idea caught on.
And at Saturday’s light parade, around 75 to 100 people came to sing Christmas carols and walk or watch a festive display of colorful lights. The cheery group wound through several neighborhood streets before ending up at the Brown Building for more caroling, hot chocolate and cookies donated by the Arlee Community Development Corporation and several community members.
If more people get involved in the future, Cordier would like to expand the parade and have a float contest. But mainly, the parade is just a fun reason to be creative and a social opportunity to share in the Christmas spirit, she said.
“I just hope people enjoyed it, because that’s what Christmas is about, sharing and giving to each other,” Cordier said.
