As you’ve surely noticed with this week’s newspaper, the Valley Journal has updated its look for the New Year. Changes include brighter white paper, taller pages and a slight increase in our type size for ease of reading. We’ll also be getting you your news a full day earlier – on Wednesday instead of Thursday morning.

You can still find us at all of our 279 distribution locations – one day earlier. At some of our larger distribution sites, you may even find us as early as Tuesday evening.

The increase in our page size allows for an overall increase in the size of our advertisements. This is at no additional cost to our customers; our way of saying “thank you” for your business.

Our earlier publication requires earlier deadlines for advertising and news submissions.

We advertised the new deadlines in the Valley Journal for the past month and a half but for ease of reference they are:

• Thursdays by 2 p.m. for display advertising

• Fridays by 5 p.m. for all news submissions and classifieds

These changes are part of our commitment to continuous improvement. While we pride ourselves in doing things well, we know we can always improve, grow, and change. While change isn’t always easy, it is essential for progress and though players have changed over the years, I can assure you that the Valley Journal is as committed to excellence today, as we were six years ago.

We’re excited about new design possibilities with our larger pages and welcome your feedback as we incorporate fresh, new concepts.

Due to the many changes our newspaper has seen in the past year, the website has unfortunately taken a backseat to other more pressing business.

However, the Valley Journal resolves to have our website back up and running in the New Year.

In the meantime, be sure to pick up Your Free Homegrown Newspaper on Wednesday.

As I look back on a year full of trials and change, I am filled with gratitude for our loyal readers and advertisers. It is truly an honor to serve you.

I wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.
