RONAN — The Ronan Golf team tried to hold its 2013 Masters Fund Raiser sponsored by Valley Bank the last two weekends. Both days brought a Montana spring blizzard. Hoping against the weather, the team gathered at 7:30 in the morning at the Mission Mountain Golf Course April 27. It was dark and cold, and I was trying to be somewhat positive, but really wasn’t. Then people started showing up — our assistant coaches Jesse Gray and Jeff Andrews, then parents, then players.

The mood all changed. We all started talking about the golf team and the young people on it. Then Dan Rohrer, the Libby coach, spoke to everyone about high school golf. The morning turned into an awesome time of celebrating high school golf.

I spoke to Jamie Buhr the day before. Jamie told me Valley Bank was committed to the sponsorship no matter what. That seemed to pave the way for everyone. People just started writing checks to the program. The players who had already paid their entry just donated it. We raised more than $1,000 for the golf team.

Only in Montana could a golf tournament get snowed out two weeks in a row, and the goodhearted people still come through for the kids. So thank you to everyone who contributed to this fundraiser.
