ARLEE — An Arlee man died while driving on U.S. Highway 93 near Arlee Friday morning, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Eli Wolfe. Michael Harold Squeque Finley, 60, was traveling north around mile marker 14 on Hwy. 93 near Arlee when, according to Missoula County Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Hintz, he suffered a “heart-related medical event.”
“It wasn’t a collision-caused fatality,” Wolfe said.
According to MHP, Finley was driving north in his Dodge Stratus when he crossed the center line into the southbound lane, drifting into the ditch. He overcorrected; the car spun about 180 degrees, and the back of the Stratus hit the driver door of a southbound Ford pickup pulling a trailer loaded with horses. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch, but the pickup truck driver was not injured, Wolfe said.
Finley wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was speeding, but Wolfe didn’t think alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
