The Streetscape Task Force has been the engine pushing the Streetscape project and serves at the pleasure of the Polson City Commissioners. The task force’s directives were to complete a design for Streetscape and move the project to construction, so its job is about done.
STF has been very active for five years, according to member Becky Dupuis.
“Cindy Willis held the STF together,” she said. Dupuis also had praise for Lee Manicke.
“Lee has done wonders with the money. He knows just how government money works, how Street Improvement District’s work.”
Other STF members include David Devore, Lou Marchello, Karen McMullen, Shawn Rowland and Joslyn Shackelford. Since Streetscape has been a lengthy project, other people may have been on and off the task force.
Funding for Streetscape came from the following sources:
• $50,000 from the City of Polson’s sidewalk fund for design work
• $50,000 additional from sidewalk fund
• $250,000 Community Transportation Enhancement Program Funds from Lake County and the City of Polson (15 percent of the funds have to go back to the state and will be repaid by using the next estimated five years of city’s CTEP monies.)
• $100,000 Tax Increment District bond
• The city of Polson will kick in an estimated $50,000 for asphalt replacement
• the remainder of the monies comes from the SID, approximately $750,000 (paid for by downtown business owners)
Dupuis added that cost of the landscaping plants and decorative items, such as benches, are not included in these figures.
