We are finally underway for the Polson High School roof repairs to occur this summer. It has taken time to negotiate the contract with Swank and then to approve the contract with Swank. After the June 10 Board approval, Swank immediately began to prepare the specifications for the roof and the soffit (the metal lining at the edge of the roof) replacement in order to put these projects out for bid. By law, we must advertise for three weeks in the local newspapers for each project associated with the roof. Currently the remaining two-thirds of the roof replacement are in the bidding process now. The bid for the roof will be awarded July 25.

With the bond money this summer we will replace the two-thirds of the roof we were not able to repair last summer. Second we will abate the asbestos in the soffits and the panels surrounding the high school gym. Third, we will replace the soffits and provide a new look to the Polson High School entrance. Over the winter and spring, the upgrades to the ventilation and heating systems will be made once specifications have been developed by Swank architects and engineers.

Additionally, the business office has been working with D.A. Davidson to prepare the Bond documents. This involved locking in an interest rate and then selling the bonds. Because we were able to lock in a low interest rate, we will be able to save the taxpayers $102,037.07 over the life of the Bond. The following banks then purchased the bonds: First Interstate Bank, Valley Bank of Ronan, Community Bank of Ronan, Baker Boyer Bank of Washington and Money Manager of Maine. The Board approved the final Bond resolution summarizing this process, June 10. On June 20, $2,491,000 was deposited into the District account at First Interstate Bank. Because the project will extend over two years, approximately $1,500,000 was invested until the funds will be needed.

As promised, we will continually update the community regarding the progress of the work on the High School through the District website (www.polson.k12.mt.us) and through articles in the newspaper.

We again sincerely thank the community for your support of Polson High School. When the High School repairs have been made, we will invite you to see and celebrate what has been accomplished at a specific date and time this fall.
