POLSON — Members of the Polson High School class of 2017 met at the PHS gym on Friday, Aug. 30 in the first ever Link Crew freshman orientation assembly.

Kris Sampson, PHS guidance clerk, and Rich Sawyer, PHS band teacher, led the crew, a group of PHS juniors and seniors wearing screaming green shirts.

The purpose of Link is to make the transition between eighth and ninth grade smooth, according to Sampson.

Each junior and senior oversaw a group of roughly 10 freshmen. After playing some games in the high school gym and getting to know the Link leaders, the incoming students were given a guided tour of PHS and got their 2013-14 class schedules.

It’s a nationwide program “powered by optimism,” Sampson said.

She also said she was pleased with the freshman turnout.
