RONAN — On Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Ronan Middle School Auditorium, Montana State University Lake County Extension will host an educational seminar on water rights adjudication in Montana. They will talk about the who, what, how and why of Montana Water Court adjudication in a non-partisan program open to all interested citizens.
This non-bias explanation will be presented by Bruce Loble, former chief water judge of the Montana Water Court, (1990-2013), who will explain the ongoing statewide water rights adjudication and answer questions, such as:
• What is the water rights adjudication all about?
• Why is Montana doing this?
• What are federal and Indian reserved water rights and where did they come from?
• What are the pros and cons of negotiating reserved water right compacts?
• What happens if the CSKT Compact is not approved?
Judge Loble has reviewed nine Federal or Indian reserved water right compacts and over 40,000 state-law based water rights. He is not a proponent or an opponent of the CSKT Compact. His goal is to present neutral, non-partisan answers to water users who are confused or concerned about the water adjudication and the compacting process. He is not speaking for the Water Court or the state of Montana but only as a private citizen who simply hopes to facilitate a helpful discussion of these issues.
