POLSON — On Wednesday, Sept. 18, Nathan Butler, 17 of Arlee, on a count of deliberate homicide, a felony, was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for 80 years; on attempted deliberate homicide, a felony, he was again sentenced to 80 years. On a count of assault with a weapon, the Court sentenced Butler to the DOC for 10 years. All sentences will run concurrently.

According to court documents, on November 12, 2012, Butler attempted to kill both his mother and his stepfather, and stabbed a third man in the chest.

At 5:30 a.m. that day, a 911 call came in from a woman who said her boyfriend, Theodore Perry, had been stabbed. When police arrived they found John Fisher, Butler’s stepfather, deceased with multiple stab wounds and Butler’s mother, Dacia Vollin, seriously injured by multiple stab wounds. A third man, Perry, had been stabbed in the chest with a pocketknife.

According to court documents, Butler ambushed his mother as she opened his bedroom door, and stabbed her in the throat. She cried for help, but he kept stabbing her. Butler went to the kitchen and got another knife, a meat knife, and stabbed Fisher until the knife handle broke. He then turned on Perry.

In court documents, Butler said in an interview “my mom came into my room, and I stabbed her multiple times. My stepdad came out, and I did the same to him. Ted came out; I stabbed him once, and that was it.”

According to court documents, Fisher threw himself on Butler, but Butler wiggled out from beneath Fisher and ran out the door.
