RONAN — The Friends of the Ronan Library would like to make two changes to Author’s Night in October.
First, we are pleased to welcome a local Polson author, Carmine Mowbray, and second, due to scheduling conflicts, the event is moved to Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Carmine “Margo” Mowbray was raised in rural western Washington and moved to Montana as soon as she was of legal age. She and her husband, Todd, logged for several years in western Montana, then started a print shop. Carmine served as a news and feature correspondent for the Missoulian. In 1983 they purchased the Flathead Courier and Ronan Pioneer. They built a high-speed regional printing plant in Ronan, and purchased the Mission Valley News in 1987. They combined the three award-winning weekly newspapers into the Lake County Leader in 1991. In 2000, the Mowbrays sold the enterprise and Carmine spent time with their four children, was a substitute teacher in the Polson schools for nine years, completed two college associate degrees, and served in the state Senate from 2011 to 2013.
Recently Carmine devoted her time to completing her first work of fiction, “An Answering Flame.” This 206-page book is based on the true stories of her aunt who was a nurse in the Frontier Nursing Service in Kentucky during World War II. The book includes historic photos from the University of Kentucky archives.
“I can’t take credit for these amazing stories. Aunt Doris’s amateur memoir thrilled me, and it was a real joy to have researched and gotten them more professionally prepared for readers to enjoy,” Mowbray said.
Please join us at the Ronan library on Wednesday, Oct.16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for Montana Author’s Night. All events are open to the public.
Also we would like to take a moment to congratulate our September author, Keith McCafferty. His novel, “The Gray Ghost Murders” has been selected as one of the Five Most Suspenseful books of 2013 by the Oprah Book Club and O magazine. Way to go, Keith.
