POLSON — The Country Store honored more than 90 volunteers with a luncheon held at the Polson Community Church beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 23.

After lunch, the mostly female crowd enjoyed a fashion show titled 100 Years of Fashion in honor of Polson’s centennial. All clothing and most accessories were from the Country Store. Each decade had at least one model.

June Syvrud provided music for the runway, and Faye Howell provided introductions and commentary on each model. Susan Hadley, dressed as Amelia Earhart, drew for the door prizes.

Norma Knutson, president of the Country Store board, said the churches whose members volunteer take turns hosting the luncheon and finding models. Many of the models also work at the Country Store.

The Country Store is a thrift store at 314 Main Street with an all-volunteer staff. The community donates clothing, shoes, accessories, toys, books, small appliances, linens and home décor items, and the volunteers wash and price the items.

Workers from nine area churches — Alliance Christian and Missionary Church, Church of Nazarene, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Life Christian Center, Polson Community Church, Presbyterian Church of Polson, St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the United Methodist Church —  staff the store and keep it open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Proceeds from the store go to needs in the community. Knutson said the causes vary but some include Cheerful Heart, Lake County Hospice, Helping Hands, Boys and Girls Club, the Mission Valley Animal Shelter, Casa, Loaves and Fish Food Pantry, Lake County Salvation army, Red Cross, Polson Beautification, Disaster Relief, The Zone, the Library Fund and Mission Valley Aquatics.

Knutson also said clothing items which don’t sell within a three-month time period are sent on to homeless shelters.
