Joining Petersen in the final rounds of the tournament was teammate Scotty Gilleard (130), who made it to the third-place round, defeating Florence’s Kody Davidson by fall in 2:16.

Petersen and Gilleard were the only two local wrestlers in the championship and third-place rounds.

Four local grapplers made it to the fifth-place round of the State Tournament. St. Ignatius-Charlo’s Jamie Mullins (105) lost to Cody Humphrey in the fifth-place round; Arlee’s Leif Rova (160) defeated Sheperd’s Calen Carpenter 9-3; teammates Clayton Trimble (189) defeated Choteau’s Greg Hinojosa 11-6; and Baker’s Dustin Irgens (215) defeated Cody North 9-2.

In the semifinals, Gage Currier of Colstrip defeated Jamie Mullins in a fall at 1.06. In 130, Taylor French of Forsyth defeated Gilleard 4-0. Eventual 160-pound champion Stanghill slipped past Rova with a fall at 1.14, and Petersen took down Choteau’s Cole Werdal with a technical fall, 16-0.
