PABLO — When someone is having thoughts of suicide, the person at risk needs someone who can talk about suicide openly and honestly, shows interest and cares, can listen for ambivalence, can ask direct questions about suicide, is able to offer hope, is able to keep the person safe until resources are accessed and knows how and where to access resources, such as the hotline at (800) 273-8255.
A free two-day suicide intervention training will be offered Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2 at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. Participants must attend all sessions both days. Sessions are held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Pete Beaverhead building #67, rooms 102 and 104. Seating is limited to 30. A continental breakfast and lunch is provided. Course credits of 14 educational hours can be applied to LAC, SWP, MLEA and OPI .
