POLSON — Voters will select two board members for the Mission Valley Aquatic Center on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Candidates Judy Fast Carte, Carole Olson and Cheryl Wolfe were asked why they are seeking a position on the MVA board.

Judy Fast Carte is retired and loves to swim. She said she wishes there had been a Mission Valley Aquatic Center in Polson when she attended Polson High School.

Carte said she has been volunteering for MVA in any way she can since moving back to the area.

“Swimming is an important skill. There are rivers and mountain lakes in Montana. People should have the opportunity to save themselves, to at least float, and they need to know not to be afraid of the water,” Carte said.

As a member of the Aquatics Center, Carole Olson said, “I use the pool at least four or five times a week and have seen the benefits this pool has brought to members of this community, both young and old. As a donor, I am committed to assisting this complex sustain itself financially. As a taxpayer, I am committed to seeing that our tax dollars are spent wisely and carefully. As a trustee of the library tax district, I feel my experience budgeting and overseeing the spending of our tax dollars there will be of benefit in this position.”

Candidate Cheryl Wolfe explained her interest in the aquatic center stems from having a young child; her daughter, Seven, is 9.

While Wolfe feels the pool is a great resource for the entire community, she’s particularly interested in children being able to utilize the facility to learn to swim.

Wolfe said, “I am interested as a taxpayer in making sure all of our services are run as well and as efficiently as possible. I am just wanting to volunteer my help.”
