BUTTE – The Charlo boys’ basketball team closed out its season at the Western C Divisional Tournament in Butte last week. It was tough from the start, as the Vikings took on a difficult Manhattan Christian team in the opening round.

The Eagles took control of the game early in the first frame, leading 8-4 at the beginning of the second. The Vikings began to get their offense flowing before halftime, but the steady Eagles remained on top, leading 26-18.

The Vikings’ offense and defense continued to step it up in the third quarter, pulling within one point with eight minutes left in the game. In the fourth, the Eagles also got the hot touch, outscoring Charlo by five to win 58-52.

Dillon Delaney led the Vikings with a double-double: 19 points and 15 rebounds, 12 of which came from three-of-four shooting from beyond the arc. Stephen Delaney contributed 12 more, while Tra Ludeman tacked on nine.

Manhattan Christian was led by Conner VanDyken’s 17 points, while Brady VanDyken put up 10.

With the loss, Charlo was paired with familiar foe Noxon on Friday. Charlo beat Noxon one week earlier, when the Vikings took Noxon out of the 14-C District Tournament semifinal game. In Butte, the Red Devils came out strong, shooting out to a 30-16 lead at the half.

Charlo got its offense rolling in the second half, scoring 21 points, but it wasn’t enough as Noxon pulled out a 59-52 victory.

Kolten Andrews led Charlo with a game-high 23 points, while Dillon Delaney added 10 points and six rebounds.

Noxon was led by Banks Stocking, who finished the game with 14 points, while Travis Tammaro added 12.

Three of Charlo’s six losses this season came from the Red Devils, Charlo ended the season 17-6 overall, and Noxon improved to 19-7.
