DIXON — Another busy Melon Days weekend filled with good old-fashioned fun has come and gone, but don't worry. Before Melon Days began last weekend, planning for next year’s festival was already under way.
While this year saw the return of the popular farmers’ Olympics, organizer Cindy Hill said the community will bring back even more of the traditional Melon Days events next year.
“It’ll be back to full Melon Days,” she said.
A little buckaroo rodeo is planned for Saturday afternoon, so kids will have a chance to show their skills at mutton busting and chasing chickens, among other events.
And Friday evening will feature a city slicker rodeo for adults, Hill added, that will be “nothing serious, just fun.”
“It’ll be a blast,” she said.
Money raised through this year’s silent auction, raffle and vendors’ fees, and generous donations from attendees, will get Melon Days going again next August, Hill said.
“Thank god we got a lot of donations this year from area people,” she said. “(Melon Days) was nicer this year than it has been in a long time, because we had enough people on staff.”
