Arlee basketball teams sidestep St. Regis, trip over Sacred Heart

ARLEE — The Warriors and Scarlets hosted a pair of games on Jan. 26 and 28 with similar outcomes. First, both teams fell to visiting Loyola Sacred Heart, and next made quick and easy work of the two St. Regis Tiger teams.

The Warriors lost 54-38 to Loyola but won handily 64-18 over St. Regis.

Loyola dominated the first quarter, 20-12, sounding the charge for the rest of the game, outscoring Arlee 17-11 in the third and 9-4 in the fourth.

Sacred Heart’s Josh Janssen scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half, followed by teammate JJ Anderson who scored seven in the third.

Junior Sansavere’s 14 points led the Warriors.

A few days later, the Warriors easily overtook the visiting St. Regis Tigers. Arlee surged ahead 17-0 in the first quarter and again in the third. Christian Haynes sank 17 points and Josh Reed contributed 12 in the win.

The Scarlets lost a heartbreaker 66-21 to Loyola Sacred Heart. The district 6-B Breakers are ranked seventh in Class B and easily defeated Arlee after leading most of the game. The Breakers outscored the Scarlets in every quarter, sometimes by more than double.

Maddie Keast paced the Breakers with 14; Kiernan Haggarty added 11; and Kari Tirrell had 10.

Mahalia Hendren led the Scarlets with nine.

On Jan. 27, the Scarlets picked up a quick 46-39 win on the road against Victor. Arlee jumped out to 13-5 lead but the Lady Pirates remained close behind, outscoring the Scarlets in the second and fourth quarter. Hendren topped all Scarlet scorers with 12, and Alexis Shick had 10.

On Jan. 28, the Scarlets were back in Arlee, dazzling the home crowd with a 47-26 win over St. Regis.

Hendren had a game-high 17 points, followed by Malatare with eight of her 12 points in the final quarter. The game was even throughout until the end when Arlee outscored the Lady Tigers 19-6 in the fourth.

Arianna Jones scored 14 points for St. Regis.

The Scarlets (4-2, 6-6) visit the neighboring Lady Bulldogs Feb. 2 and Noxon Feb. 3.

The Warriors (4-4, 6-7) host Mission Feb. 2 and travel to Noxon Feb. 3.
