POLSON — “Hot Rod Lincoln” and “Little Deuce Coupe” will be popular tunes this weekend when the Cruisen By the Bay Car Show takes over downtown Polson.

Put on by the Mission Valley Cruisers, Cruisen By the Bay has 58 preregistered entries. Mike Lee, vice president of the Mission Valley Cruisers and show manager, said he wouldn’t really know because many car owners, particularly locals, just drive up and register when they get to town.

Mission Valley Cruisers President Richard Santorno agreed. “We always get more people who register on the last day,” Santorno said, “but we’re expecting between 200 to 300 cars.”

Cars are coming from California, Washington, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and “one guy from Yuma, Arizona” as well as Canada, according to Lee.

Registration will be on 2nd Street E. and Highway 93, and it closes at noon on Aug. 7. This year Cruisen By the Bay opened its registration to motorcycles hoping to draw more entrants, although Santorno said the numbers of motorcycles would probably be pretty sparse.

The Cruisen By the Bay Car Show is coming together well, Lee said, complimenting the great Mission Valley Cruisers team. Lee has been so busy he may not even bring his wife’s ’38 Chevy or his ’57 Chevy pickup, though he may exhibit his motorcycle.

Santorno will bring his bright red Ford roadster hotrod. The car is a '31 with a '32 front end.

Cruisen By the Bay opens with a Friday, Aug. 6, poker run which opens at noon at Riverside Park. Entrants with a preregistration form get a free poker run while everybody else pays $5. A cruise and block hop around downtown Polson begins at 7 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m. with protected parking available. Everyone can gawk at the cool cars and then dance the night away at a street hop featuring '50s, '60s and '70s tunes in front of the Cove Deli, 11 3rd Ave. W.

On Aug. 8 the car and motorcycle show opens at 8 a.m. so car fans can view the vehicles. Also on the calendar is a poker walk at 10 a.m., free to registered participants and $5 for everybody else. 50/50 tickets will be on sale, and the drawing will be held at 3:30 p.m. when the car show winners winners will also be announced.

Kids can visit the carnival, and visitors seeking shade and art can wander over to the Lake County Court House lawn for the Sandpiper Art Festival, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Saturday night, the Mission Valley Cruisers are throwing a free beach party at Riverside Park from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and dance to music of Hot Rod Deluxe, a six-piece band from Spokane. Hot Rod Deluxe plays '50s, '60s and '70s music.

Cruisen By the Bay will end with a free breakfast for all car show entrants from 8 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug 8.
