POLSON — Polson School District #23 received a Montana Quality Schools Planning Grant totaling $28,197; $8,177 is designated for the high school district and $20,020 for the elementary district.

Superintendent Linda Reksten announced the grant as part of her report at the Jan. 13 school board meeting.

These planning grants are part of the 2015 Biennium Quality School Grant Program funds to provide financial assistance to K-12 public schools to improve their facilities and enhance learning opportunities, according to Governor Steve Bullock’s press release.

Reksten plans three days of meetings at the North Lake County Library District’s conference room to look at educational philosophies, meaningful learning for kids and enrollment projections for the next 15 years. The dates for the meetings are Feb. 25, Mar. 13 and Mar. 25. She encouraged the trustees to extend a personal invitation to community members, and Reksten has invited Mayor Heather Knutson and Polson City Manager Mark Shrives.

A community forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. each evening so people who can’t attend during the day can keep up to date.

Bids on Polson High School’s heating and air conditioning units will be opened on Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. in the district office, according to District Clerk Pam Owen.

With the first semester of school finishing next week, it’s time for tests. Student board representative Sharidan Russell told trustees this is the first year students have had a schedule of final exams so kids won’t have so many tests on the same day.

While it’s not a test, trustees who need training on an iPad can come half an hour early to the Feb. 10 school board meeting. Carl Elliott, the district’s technical manager and human resources person, will lend a hand.

Agendas and supporting data will be available for the public on the district website at www.polson.k12.mt.us.

The next meeting of the Polson School Board will be held Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the School District Office.
