Man at large after pursuit

LAKE COUNTY – One suspect was in custody and another was at large last week after a chase, crash and foot pursuit through back roads south of Ravalli on Monday, Jan. 13.
Michael Assiniboine, Jr., 26, of St. Ignatius was booked into Tribal Jail after a Montana Highway Patrol trooper apprehended him in a rural area.
According to Sgt. Randal Owens, the trooper initiated a traffic stop on North Valley Creek Road at approximately 2 p.m., but the driver did stop the car. A pursuit entailed and the trooper came upon the vehicle after it hit a tree and was abandoned. The vehicle was stolen from the St. Ignatius area.
After a foot pursuit, Assiniboine was arrested, but another person who was riding in the vehicle was not found, even after Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Tribal Police, Tribal Fish and Game officers joined in a five-hour manhunt.
Authorities were not able to give out an identity of the second suspect as of press time.
