POLSON — Step back in time and visit an authentic soda fountain, take a drive in a Rat Patrol Jeep, ride the train, watch tennis ball cannon and see an ice-cream maker powered by a one-cylinder engine make ice-cream right before your eyes.

All these activities and many more are available at the Miracle of America Museum’s 20th Annual Live History Days on Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18, from 10 a.m.  to 4 p.m.

Visitors may watch, or even try their hand at numerous old-time crafts, including duck and bird carving, spinning, and pottery making. Needle workers, a pine needle basket weaver, a potter, quilters and beaders will demonstrate their arts.

The Leon 4-H Club members will serve a reasonably priced-lunch and cold drinks while visitors relax and enjoy old time fiddlers and accordionists on Saturday or KC and the Valley Cats on Sunday.

The museum is filled with memorabilia from America’s past as well as special displays related to the Polson Centennial both inside and on the grounds outside.

Outside, museum visitors may check out the blacksmith shop with a blacksmith in residence, antique vehicles, engines, tractors, the train, army vehicles, a helicopter, bicycles and boats. An operating saw mill and an old-fashioned schoolhouse are two more attractions. A juggler will be wandering the grounds, too.

Live History Days is held rain or shine, and the main building is air-conditioned. Admission is $5 for everyone over age three, and it includes unlimited rides but not the food.

To reach the museum, take Memory Lane exit off of Highway 93 just south of Polson. For more information, call the museum at 883-6804.
