As the second half of the season’s schedule is looming, the Vikings are showing their postseason wants.

Although off to a rough start, according to seventh-year head coach Michael Brown, the Vikings have kicked it in high gear and are speeding off the courts with wins.

“We’re starting to pick it up,” Brown said.

Seniors Tristan Santee, Tyler Delaney, Kail Pope and Cody Couture are leading the cavalry into battle as the scorebooks record their success along the way.

“They do a good job getting the team going,” Brown said. “Cody may not have seen a ton of play time, but he does his part.”

With a well-rounded bench of younger guys, the Vikings are well on their way to post-season contentions.

With this last week’s domination of both Class C and B teams the Vikings are on a tear and have proved to be a force to be reckoned with. On Thursday the Vikings took the Tigers down in St. Regis, 74-28. Santee noshed through the Tigers to lead his team with 24 points.

On Friday, Coach Brown was calm as his boys warmed up, though intensity filled the air.

“Mission always brings their A game when they visit,” he said. Despite the rise in heat coming from both Mission and Charlo fans, the Vikings netted a 74-68 victory against Class B Mission. The Bulldogs struggled to hold the Vikings back with four Vikings putting up double digits. Santee led with 20, followed by teammates Jade Smith (17), Kail Pope (14), and Kobe Cox with 11.

Coming up next for the Vikings are teams they have already seen.

“We’re making adjustments, working on rebounds,” Brown said in anticipation of revisiting teams. “We’ll be alright,” he said. “We’re just pushing to the end, trying to get a spot.”

With the Vikings receiving a pre-season, second-to-last pick, according to Brown, there may be some surprises in the post season.

Charlo has a busy week ahead as they travel to Kalispell Jan. 30 to compete against Stillwater Christian, and then return home to host Two Eagle River Jan. 31 and Noxon Feb.1.
