POLSON — Wondering what’s going on at Appliance Care?

Brothers Sam and Caleb Allred purchased Appliance Care, 805 Main Street, in late October of 2012.

Appliance Care opened more than 20 years ago, owned by R. J. Eckhardt. The business originally sold and serviced Maytag appliances.

The Allreds said now their main focus is becoming a factory authorized repair and installation shop. They hope to get on board with 50 companies in the first two years. To become authorized may entail taking classes in Missoula and even Spokane.

Sam already is a technician, and Caleb will be training as a technician.

“We want to get authorized by as many companies as possible so no matter who calls we can fix it,” Caleb said.

Sam worked for Eckhard, who dealt only with Maytag appliances. Becoming factory authorized technicians for 40 to 50 companies will broaden their business base.

“We want to take what (Appliance Care) had before and make it better,” Sam said.

If a customer has a new appliance shipped in, they will be able to install that washer or dishwasher or refrigerator.

They’ll also repair appliances, as in home residential appliances, and are willing to take a look at most brands. Sam even took a look at a KitchenAid mixer once, although it’s not the norm.

The Allreds also plan to sell used appliances when they can find quality machines.

“We’ll only sell them if they are good enough to sell to our own mother-in-laws,” Sam said.

The brothers like to work together and get along well.

“We can chew (issues) over and work for ourselves,” Sam said. “It’s nerve wracking starting in winter, but we’ve had people stopping in to see if we are open.”

Caleb said a customer might have to wait a day or two to get something repaired or installed, but they try to schedule as many service calls as possible.
