POLSON — Famous acts like Jars of Clay and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will perform with Flathead Lake as their backdrop this summer during a new concert series.

At least three, two-day events will take place during Concerts on the Bay, beginning in July.

Headliners and local talent will draw region-wide listeners and help boost local business, organizers Melanie Christensen-Glanz and Jim Glanz said.

During a time when people are surrounded with negatives and a down economy, the concerts will provide positive focus, they said.

“We’re an area that needs spiritual and uplifting music,” Glanz said.

While she and her husband’s Christian faith is the driving force behind their concert endeavors, the goal of the concerts is to provide a positive message, from whatever genre it may come, Glanz-Christensen said. She added she’s proud to take her daughters to the concerts, which will also raise money for Court Appointed Special Advocates and Flathead Coalition for Kids.

Originally, Glanz said, he wanted to hold a small country concert in Hot Springs. The idea sparked the creation of JAM300 Productions Inc., which Glanz and Christensen-Glanz head up. Eventually, the small concert turned into a two-day event with a mega stage and vendors at the Polson fairgrounds.

Concerts on the Bay isn’t the first of its kind in Polson, however, it’s the first in years.

Heather Knutson, president of the Polson Chamber of Commerce, remembers watching Nitty Gritty Dirt Band during her first concert experience when still in high school. Now, she’ll get to see them perform again in the same town.

“It’s an exciting thing,” she said.

Concertgoers will spend a lot of time at the venue, where music and entertainment will be continuous, Glanz said.

“We want people to feel like they’re missing something if they go to the bathroom,” he said.

Attendees will also make their way into the community for lodging, food and other activities.

“They’re (concert goers) going to stick around. They’re going to want to see what we have to offer,” Glanz said, adding local attractions and businesses have a lot to show off.
