SKC holds pinning ceremony for nursing grads

Salish Kootenai College’s 19th crop of nurses held their pinning ceremony on June 4 at 4 p.m. at the Joe McDonald Health and Physical Education Center.
Chief Cliff Singers played the drum processional. Dr. Darryl Tonemah, Director of the Health Promotion Program at the University of Oklahoma College of Continuing Education, gave the commencement address.
Tonemah, whose mom was a nurse, said, “Nursing is a calling.”
He complimented the class on not losing their focus.
“You persist, you persist, you persist. That’s why you’re here,” Tonemah told the graduates.
After Tonemah’s address, Alice Oechsli, Emeritus Academic Vice President of Salish Kootenai College, and Dr. Joe McDonald, President of Salish Kootenai College, were declared the Helping Hands award recipients.
The 2010 Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Colleagues,
Tanya Archer, Jamie Beaudry, Margaret Martino and Khi Soldano, were honored and “blanketed” with a Pendleton blanket by loved ones.
Then the Associate Degree Nursing Graduates were pinned by their loved ones.
The 2010 Associate Degree Nursing Graduates were: Lauren G. Arnoux, Katie Boggs, Stephanie Bortz, Starlite Brewer, Jamie Cahoon, Cristin Duncan, Jami L. Ekern, Stephanie Garoutte, Lanita M. Haugen, Bronwyn Hulbert, Melissa D. Ireland, Marie E. Jenson, Pamala Jones, Margaret M. Karolak, Christina M. Kramer, Lashaia McBride, Cynthia R. Pease, Debra Stoneman, Kendra Reinlasoder, Randy Reinlasoder, Geof W. Rohrlach, Traci Satter, Heather L. Schildt, Jennifer R. Squires, Leslie R. Traynor.
A reception in the Camas Room at the Joe followed the ceremony. Tonemah, a singer and songwriter, honored the graduates with a concert at 7 p.m. in the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theatre.
