David G. Yutzy

ST. IGNATIUS — David G. Yutzy died Feb. 22, 2014, at the Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Ariz., after suffering a massive stroke four days earlier.

He was born in Plain City, Ohio, on Feb. 12, 1931, to Gideon and Anna (Kauffman) Yutzy. In 1946, David moved with his parents and siblings to Buchanan County, Iowa.

On April 18, 1951, he married Ella E. Borntrager who preceded him in death in October of 2011. Also preceding him in death were his parents and his brother Henry.

David is survived by children: Martha (Ervin) Lambright of Bloomfield, Iowa; Rosana of Red Oak, Iowa; Alvin (Naomi) Wagler of Huntsville, Ark.; Lester (Rachel) Wagler of Nickerson, Kansas; Wilma (Stephen) Wagler of Bird-in-Hand, Pa.; Rudy (Marietta) Yoder) of Linn, Mo.; Jonas (Marianna Mast) of Norwood, Mo.; David Leroy (Christina Yoder) of Linn, Mo.; Gideon (Anna Schrock) of Rexford, Mont. and Esther (Jonas Yoder) of St. Ignatius with whom they made their home. His 62 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; his five brothers: Adin Yutzy; Norman Yutzy; John Yutzy; Eli Yutzy and Roy Yutzy; five sisters: Esther Mast; Elizabeth Hershberger; Ida Gingerich; Rachel Kauffman and Fanny Yoder, also survive him. David had retired from farming and carpentry work and had a keen interest in traveling. He traveled many places including Europe with Ella in 2001. David, with his father and brothers, started the Bloomfield, Iowa, Amish Settlement in 1971.
