RONAN – What does it feel like to be chosen as an All American in the National Junior College Athletic Association wrestling world?

“I don’t know how to describe it, it’s a pretty great feeling,” Cole McArthur of Ronan said about receiving the honors. McArthur placed fifth in the nation in his weight class at the NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament held Feb. 28 through March 1 in Spokane, Wash., after placing first at divisionals in Rock Springs, Wyo., on Feb. 15.

“I knew as soon as I got into high school,” Ronan High School graduate McArthur said about when he knew wrestling had become “his sport.” He began wrestling at the age of 6 with Ronan Little Guy Wrestling. While still in high school, McArthur was a three-time divisional champion, 2011 state champion, and was named to the All State team three times. McArthur also excelled in other sports such as football and baseball, but wrestling has always been where his heart is.

After a year in North Dakota at Dickinson State University, McArthur transferred to Northwest College in Powell, Wyo., where he is currently attending. He is studying physical education and is aspiring to become a teacher. He plans to transfer to a four-year college and continue to wrestle, but has not made up his mind as to where he will be headed. McArthur says he has taken a little bit from every coach, friend, and opponent in his life and has learned a lot along the way. He mostly credits his success to his mother and stepfather.

“They have been behind me the whole way,” he said. “I just owe them so much.”
