CHARLO — Cassidy Cheff of Charlo traveled to Charleston, S.C., in late January to participate in the national Make It With Wool contest. She had qualified on the state level in December in Billings, where each participant constructed garments from fabric with a minimum of 60 percent wool. They were judged on style, construction, and presentation. Cassidy placed first at state, and won the trip to compete at nationals.
At nationals, Cassidy was one of 36 contestants from across the country to compete in the senior division, ages 17-24. She received an honorable mention by placing in the top ten. She constructed a 100-percent wool outfit consisting of an easy, breezy skirt and a double-breasted hound’s tooth print coat.
Cassidy’s prizes included Pendleton wool fabric, various sewing supplies, and Wild Ginger Software to design patterns from a home computer.
Another Montana girl, Abigail Konen of Fairfield, also received Honorable Mention in the Junior Division, ages 13-16.
