News from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

RONAN — John Romero, a local resident and graduate of Ronan High School, recently returned March 5 from a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

On March 5, 2012, Romero arrived at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah, for three weeks of training prior to his mission at the Utah, St. George mission.

Romero is also an Eagle Scout and says that his training as a scout played an important role in his success as a missionary, adding that he understood the importance of discipline and the scout law and scout oath. He has not been without challenges and has struggled in overcoming a hearing and speech disability, yet he has accomplished much in his young life.

When asked what he enjoyed the most about his mission, he replied, “I liked seeing the change in those we taught.”

Romero is glad to be back, but will never forget those two years spent teaching the gospel. John has a brother currently serving in the Las Vegas, Nevada mission. Other missionaries from Ronan, St. Ignatius and Charlo who are serving include: Stephanie Maughan (Thailand), Chad Anderson (California), Jordon Roylance (El Paso, Texas), and Sarah Leafty (New Mexico).
