POLSON — Polson High School student Erica Alfiero has signed with New Mexico State University to ride hunt seat on the women’s equestrian team.
NMSU is one of 22 NCAA equestrian teams, and one of 18 Division 1 teams and was ranked 4th going into the national championships in April. Although the team did not place in the top three at the championships, they have high hopes for their recruiting class for next year, according to Erica’s mother, Nancy Hemphill.
Erica is one of about 300 athletes recruited to equestrian teams across the country this year.
A 4.0 student, Erica will be one of Polson High School’s valedictorians for this year’s graduation.
She is active at school and in the community, and has been riding competitively since she was 7 years old.
