POLSON — Friday was sunny, perfect for the 2014 opening of the Polson Farmers Market.

At about 8:30 a.m. tents were going up, tables were unfolded, and tomato plants, jewelry, pastries, pies and bread, flowers, wooden rocking horses, bedding plants, receiving blankets, soap, jelly and many more items were being unloaded from pickups and trunks.

Cheryl Rando was hanging strings of glittering beads. It’s her first year as a permanent vendor at the market, which begins at 9 a.m. and closes down at 1 p.m.

Flathead Lake Cheese co-owner Wendi Arnold was happy the weather was good, because rainy cold Farmers Markets are not so fun, she said.

Farmers Market President LouAnne Hoskinson said the group has 50 permanent vendors and lots of fill-in vendors. She’s looking forward to a great market season.

The Polson Farmers Market will be open every Friday from May 2 to October 10 to offer fresh local food, bedding plants and other items for purchase.
